In honour of its 45th anniversary here is a huge tribute to Orlandos Space Mountain.

Trace the origins back to the mid 60s, see versions that weren’t built, and follow their evolution to the final product. Take a detailed look at the design and layout of the final version, see how it was built, and then the grand opening.

Each major version, and smaller changes, are covered in detail with plenty of archive footage and new audio mixes. Eras covered in detail include:

the original 1975 RCA theme including the preshow area, load, the ride and RCAs Home of Future Living.

Updates in 1985 including the preshow area, queue, load and RYCA-1 Dream of a New World

The FedEx era from 1994 including the preshow and queues, load, SMTV, ride, postshow and the video arcade

The 2009 refurb changes, outside and inside

The chicken exit and the 2010 audio additions

And then we come to the present with a look at the exit speedramp removal, the exit diversion around the rear of the mountain, and a full tour of the Mountain as it is today, from outside, the queue, preshows, load, the ride in amazing low light quality with a source audio mix, and the post show and exit as it is minus the speedramp.

I’ve used as much archive material, both audio and visual, as possible to hopefully make this 90 minute long video a true tribute to the original Magic Kingdom thrill ride.

In the second part of this release, see the history and designs of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Experience the first summers hectic rope drop walk down Main Street in an attempt to control the crowds before taking a full queue tour and full multi angle ride.

Next see the changes made around the existing land, including Poohs facade and queue, the removal of the Skyway station for the bypass and bathrooms – with a tour of the station when it was operating- and the Peter Pans Flight new interior standby queue.

This is followed by a look at the changes made to Voyage of the Little Mermaid since it opened.

A complete look at Orlandos Space Mountain after the 2009 refurb. Start with a history trip back to 1970, looking at the mountains concept and construction, the 1975 opening and the first RCA exterior, preshows, ride and Home of Future Living postshow. Then jump to 1985 for RCAs refurb to the exterior, preshow, and RYCA-1 Dream of a New World post show, and then fast forward again to the changes made to the exterior, preshow, holding with SMTV and postshow by FedEx. Finally, come to 2008 and look at the changes proposed to the attraction, the 2009 demolition and construction work in Space Mountain, the Skyway terminal, Galaxy Palace and the new stage, and then see what work was done outside and in when the attraction reopened. See the new plaza area, exterior, then take a multi angle, source/live audio tour of all the details of the whole preshow tunnel, holding and load areas, the ride, and the unload and postshow area. Also take a trip on the TTA during and after the refurb. 55 minutes long.

Here is the first of a multi part WDW Adventureland and Frontierland history series. It made sense to produce a video showing the history of these 2 attractions since they are both connected, and indeed exist, due to the third attraction also featured in the video – the never built Thunder Mesa and Western River Expedition.

Beginning in the late 60`s see the designs and proposals in detail for Thunder Mesa and its 2 E Tickets, Western River Expedition and Big Thunder Railroad. Follow the plots and concepts of both rides, plus the Mountain, before arriving in 1971 and the reasons behind and the designs of Pirates of the Caribbean. Following this is a full concepts, layout and construction section of the Orlando version, followed by a full multi angle enhanced and remastered edit of the 1973 ride with a new stereo source audio/clean live audio mix. Next, see the history and design of Caribbean Plaza and then jump forward 5 years for the reasons behind and full concept and construction coverage of Big Thundermountain Railroad – and how Western River was nearly built again.

Follow the design and layout of Big Thundermountain, and take a multi angle trip aboard the wildest ride in the wilderness. Next, follow the changes made to both attractions since 1973 and 1980, then see what took place in Pirates of the Caribbean during its major 2006 refurb. This is followed by a full multi angle, stereo source/clean live audio mix ride of the current attraction including full queue coverage. Finally, take a tour of modern day Caribbean Plaza, see the additions made for The Pirates League, what parts of Thunder Mesa were actually used and finish with a night time ride on Big Thundermountain.

Part one (56:15)
Go right back to 1968 and see some of the alternate Tomorrowland ideas, then the construction for opening day. See how…empty Tomorrowland was in October 1971, then ride the Skyway and the Grand Prix Raceway – literally a longer track than today in an open field. See highlights from America the Beautiful, and take in the highlights of a Flight to the Moon, complete with a look at each buildings design and layout. Oh, not forgetting the entrance spires in all their watery glory!

Next up is the first phase expansion; a new showbuilding, Utilidor extention and new restaurant, followed by a full ridethru of If You Had Wings, including new footage and a new audio mix.

Following is 1974, with phase 2 construction in full swing. Ride the Star Jets, and take in the WDW history of Carousel of Progress, with a full multi camera, source audio edit of Now is the Best Time 1985/90. Finally see the history of Space Mountain, early plans and concepts, the layout of the building, construction, the opening ceremony, then the RCA preshow and finally take the full multi angle ride. Not quite lights on, not quite night vision! Finally travel the speedramp out via RCAs Home of Future Living.

Look at the original WEDWay Peoplemover layout, how it fitted into the existing track, and take a quick tour with Jack Wagner and the Edisson Electric Company. See the updates for Mission to Mars, and have a quick tour of the major shops and restaurants of the era. I then touch on the planned Tomorrowland Train Station, what it would have looked like, the Spires fountains deactivation, and highlights of American Journeys (sorry, no Magic Carpet ‘Round the World footage!)

Next, trace the history of the Tomorrowland Stage/Theatre, then take a full multi camera tour on the WEDWay of ORAC-1 with new complete audio mix. Following is a look at the changes to the Carousel of Progress in the early 90`s, and updates to Space Mountain following it`s opening. Take a Dreamflight highlights ride, and see what happened to the Carousel of Progress in 1993.

1994…. one by one the attractions shut. Concepts and construction of New Tomorrowland, including the on ewe didn`t get, and a tour of the new land, day and night. Spin on the Astro Orbiter, then see what the original version of Alien Encounter was like, followed by the changes and highlights for version 2. Finally see the history of the Transportarium, and highlights of From Time to Time (with the finalised source audio wink.gif )
