The third and final part of my heavily researched trilogy. Recorded in full HD days before the backlot tour closed its doors forever. Start with a look around the exterior and waiting area of the tour, then take a complete look around the queue including the full Pearl Harbor monitor show. Next, a multi angle pass of the whole water tank show. This is followed with walking into the props warehouse for full coverage of the whole buildings display. Then await for your tram to arrive and board for one last multi angle, inducted audio spiel complete ride of the backlot tram tour as it was at closure.
Part two of my series looking at the complete history of the Disney MGM Studios backstage tours.
Starting off, go back to 1989 for a look at the original Animation tour. This includes a source quality copy of Back to Neverland with Walter Cronkite and Robin Williams, a look at the interior of the building and the viewing gallery, and the overhead Cronkite and Williams screens.
Now, back to the main tram and walking tour for every major change between 1991 and 2014. Plenty of archive photos and video, plus maps and graphics, to see how the routes changed over the years, moving entrances, Mickey Avenue and New York Street opening to the public, a second Walt Disney Theatre, additions to the backlot from houses to theatres and MuppetVision, huge changes with the Animation building extension and Lights Motors Action, what happened and when and how they impacted the tours, the shrinking walking tour and full Backstage Pass plus much more.
At over an hour long, hopefully I’ve fully documented every major change during the tours 25 years existence.
The first part of an exhaustive, detailed look at the Disney MGM Studios Backstage tours history. This first part is an hour long, and begins with the concept, design and construction of the studios tour. A detailed look at the original layout of both the tram and walking tours leads to a full multi camera edit of the original tram and walking tour circa 1989-91 including
Original queue and load
Original tram route via bungalows
New York Street and Washington Square by tram
Two Dick Tracey’s Crimestoppers New York Street tram hold ups
Half way point with Toon Garden and New York Gardens
Original water effects show in full multi angle
Visual effects stage in full multi angle
Chromakey stage in full multi angle
The Lottery and making of The Lottery
The Lottery props
Sound effects with Mel Gibson and Peewee Herman
Editing with George Lucas, C3PO and R2D2
The Walt Disney Theatre with Michael and Mickey
Go back to 1969 to see the design, concepts, layout and construction of Orlando’s Jungle Cruise. Next take a full ride on the original version with original features and rather sparse landscaping! See the changes made in 1973 and through to present day of the queue, boats, script, props and landscaping and then take a full multi angle HD ride of today’s version, including unprecedented full coverage of an entire empty queue and a remixed clean audio track. Finish off with a private night time ride with a unique live no-spiel audio track.
Finally, an edit I’ve always wanted to do. Starting with a full concepts and construction section, trace the attractions development back to a Futureworld ride through, the changes to a theatre show and early plans. Next see how the show was designed and built, how a technological marvel operates, and the opening dedication.
Next take a full tour both outside and inside, including a full look at all the artwork, furniture and flags on both lobby levels.
Walk into the theatre and experience the full show, shot from multiple angles in full HD for complete coverage. Each rear projected piece of art was either resampled and composited or scanned from original artwork, and then re-animated to match the projected version exactly with no blur, shake or flicker. The audio was remixed in stereo matching original attraction dialogue, sound effects and stereo musical scores for a source quality stereo soundtrack. Includes the full 2007 source quality Golden Dream finale.
After the show, walk around the exterior looking at various details and finally see the changes to the pavilion since 1982, from the minor to the 1993 animatronic replacement with a side by side comparison plus a source quality complete original 1982 Golden Dream and the full 1993 version too.
Shot with a relaxed video ban. 65 minutes long. Enjoy!
Something for the holidays….. back in the warmer summer of 2014, Hollywood Studios ran a Frozen Fireworks show nightly. Here is the whole fireworks presentation, shot in full HD from multiple angles with a source music / live pyro audio mix.
The new Magic Kingdom Parade, shot in full HD from 11 angles with a special audio mix.
Starting with the Grand Marshall and Main Street Philharmonic, this edit has the whole parade in full with each complete float loop fully covered. Audio wise there is a source music mix with live ambiance.
A simple 6 camera edit of the October 2014 version of Epcots nighttime extravaganza. Shot in full HD, this video concentrates on the ongoing upgrades to the show made over the last year – especially looking at the new pyro shells used, the upgraded syncrolite and pavilion lighting, and a taste of the new lasers.
Look at the history and design of the attraction and how it differs and tried to improve on previous versions, followed by a layout and concept art tour of the whole building.
Next walk the whole interior queue and ride the full attraction, with multi angle HD video for all the details and a source / clean live audio mix. Finally take a look inside the Blue Lagoon restaurant and ride through the attraction on the parks railroad.
A massive, detailed HD edit covering every aspect of the attraction. Begin with a look at the Disneyland version and the changes made in Orlando with a comparison between the two. Next is a detailed section looking at the planning, design and layout of the Orlando version plus a good look at how the area – and Frontierland Railroad Station – looked both before and during construction.
Take a look around the finished attraction from every area including the full queue, then walk to load for a full multi angle ride through of the whole ride from start to finish including every detail and every main show scene in full.
After riding, wander through Splash Down photos and take a tour of the larger Railroad station and ride both into and out of the ride and station.
Finally, take a whistlestop tour of the ride at night.
I’m again proud of the multitrack full source stereo audio edit I’ve managed.
Reserve over an hour for this one!
