Installing required Codecs/Media Players

Codecs are basically sets of software instructions that tell your media player how to decode and play a particular type of file, depending on the codec that was used to create it.

Most web-distributed video files are compressed with one of many common codecs (wmv, divx, xvid, h.264, mov, etc).

In the event that your computer does not yet have these codecs installed, you simply need to install them.

I recommend installing a software package containing all common codecs, such as the ffdshow codec pack.

Installation is very easy, just follow the onscreen steps after downloading and running the codec pack installation file.

If you choose not to use your computer’s default media player, you can also install a third party media playing application, such as VLC media player (also free).
